In addition to Ross-on-Wye, the town of Leominster is popular for shopping. In the east of the county, Ledbury has a museum to complement its seventeenth century arcaded market hall. Nearby, Eastnor castle is set in magnificent grounds and has a good play area for children.

Places To Visit Outside Herefordshire

The uncrowded rural idylls of Herefordshire are complemented by the castles and hill forts of in Shropshire, set against dramatic landscapes. The main town in south Shropshire is Ludlow, where you will find a fascinating and entertaining mix of designer shops, medieval fairs, live music and gourmet food. Further north, Shrewsbury attracts tourists with an enviable combination of a castle, listed buildings and a park with winding river - and even festivals, including dragon boat races. The Brecon Beacons National Park and the Victorian resort of Aberystwyth are west of the county. To the east, Kidderminster and Malvern in Worcestershire offer great days out with a car – choose from garden and craft centers, country parks and stately homes.

The nearest airport to Hereford is Bristol Airport, around 46 miles to the south. Alternatively, Birmingham International Airport is a 49-mile drive and in south Wales, Cardiff airport is 53 miles away with excellent road connections via the M4.
